The day cake got on our ceiling (Braxton’s one year pictures)

I was torn as to whether or not to hire a professional photographer to take Braxton’s pictures, but I decided to attempt to do them myself for a few reasons. 1.) I feel like while I may not know my way around a camera even approaching as well as a professional, I know my kid. Braxton tends to be a bit serious around people he doesn’t know and I wanted to get some genuine smiles and true “Braxton expressions” in the pictures. 2.) For a one year old 1 hour is a long time to be feeling photogenic. Since I did it myself I split it up over two days. 3.) I could do it for free. I didn’t want to pay and risk having Braxton be grumpy or the light being bad etc. Winter and one year olds are so unpredictable. 4.) I have fun taking pictures of my kids, which is good because other wise I would be torturing myself with the number of pictures I take.

I am not much for props, other than the cake, obviously. I know some people are and I really love how some of them turn out in pictures. No offense to anyone who likes props. I just prefer having the focus of the pictures being the baby/kid rather than a prop so that is why we opted out of using common props and stuck with the basics.

They didn’t turn out as nice quality as they would if a professional did them, but I am reasonably happy with the result all things considering. Here are some favorites.

  1. Super cute! I never got around to doing the cake pics. She's 14 months now, so I may just have to fake it and do it now! :-)
